Anxiety shouldn’t keep you from a healthy smile. If hearing the word “dentist” gives you the chills, you’re not alone. Dental fear is a real problem, stopping millions of people from getting the care they need. At Westwood Dentistry in Westwood, Massachusetts, Dr. Monica Anand and Dr. Anshuman Rawat provide gentle dental care with highly effective sedation options to help reduce stress during your visit.
Sedation dentistry is about easing nerves and reducing pain during dental treatment. It’s a safe and simple way to help clients who feel anxious or overwhelmed in the chair. For those with medical conditions, strong gag reflexes, or a history of dental trauma, sedation can make visits much more manageable. Drs. Anand and Rewat personalize each plan to fit your comfort level.
We offer two types of sedation to help you relax:
Both options are safe and effective for reducing dental anxiety.
The medication works by calming your central nervous system. You feel your fear melt away without putting you to sleep. You take the pill about an hour before your appointment. The effect will make you feel very relaxed, but you will still be completely aware and able to respond.
Most adults in good health can use oral conscious sedation safely. That said, it’s not right for everyone. Drs. Anand and Rawat will first look at your medical history. If you have certain respiratory, heart, or liver conditions—or take specific medications, we’ll discuss safer alternatives that will keep you comfortable.
The main thing you need to do is plan.
And finally, ask questions. We are here for that.
Recovery largely depends on the type of sedation. With nitrous oxide, you’ll feel fine in minutes. With oral sedation, you’ll be drowsy for the rest of the day. You should also avoid work or other activities for at least 24 hours after treatment.
Activities like driving and playing sports could be hazardous. Go home, rest, drink water, and avoid making big decisions.
